The place GANGOLIHAT is extremely popular for underground caves and ancient temples. AMBIKA DEWAAL, HAAT KALIKA, CHAMUNDA MANDIR and VAISHNAVI MANDIR are few temples must to see at GANGOLIHAT. Apart from the temples numerous underground caves such as PATAL BHUBANESWAR, MUKTESHWAR GUFA and SHAILASHWER GUFA are also available here to visit. . The place is also famous for many other temples that are scattered all over this small town. Perched at an altitude of 1800 meters above ground in the scenic Himalayan vista, it is a place of true worship and natural wonders. It is a very small town which is located near important tourist spots such as PATAL BHUVENESHWAR, BINSAR and Abbott Mount. The best period to visit GANGOLIHAT is from October till March. The weather is refreshingly pleasant and begins to get colder towards the later part of the winter, requiring to carry multiple layers of woollen. HAAT KALIKA’, ‘AMBIKA DEWAAL’, ‘CHAMUNDA MANDIR’, ‘VAISHNAVI MANDIR’ are some of the famous temples here. This temple is situated on a mountain that is called ‘SHAIL PARVAT’ which is notable in Hindi holy books. ‘VAISHNAVI MANDIR’ is a special one because one can clearly view Himalayas from here.
HAATH KALIKA MANDIR’ was chosen by SANKARACHARYA for installation of MAHAKALI SHAKTIPEETH. It is believed that the original goddess KALIKA MATA, which supposed to be west Bengal shifted her place from Bengal to GANGOLIHAT. This temple is very famous all over India, especially among Indian army forces. Posthumous PARAM VEEER chakra award winner, Capt. BIKRAM BATRA was a great devotee of goddess and had created an Army rest house area near the temple for Army personnel who come GANGOLIHAT to get the blessings of goddesses, when they are at borders and fighting against their enemy.
By Air: One can easily get a cab for GANGOLIHAT or catch a bus till Pithoragarh and take a connecting bus at Pithoragarh for GANGOLIHAT. The nearest airport is Pant Nagar Airport which is about 250 km from GANGOLIHAT.
By Rail: KATHGODAM Railway Station is the nearest rail head which is 200 km from GANGOLIHAT. One can easily get a cab for GANGOLIHAT or catch a bus from Pithoragarh and take a connecting bus at Pithoragarh for GANGOLIHAT.
By Road: GANGOLIHAT lies at the meeting point of Old Pithoragarh-ALMORA road and the new GHATESHWAR Road meaning it is well connected by motor-able roads. There are many public and private buses which connect the village to nearby towns.
