New TEHRI, is one of the only planned towns of UTTARAKHAND. TEHRI GARHWAL derives its name from the word a “TRIHARIA” which indicates a place where three kinds of sins can be cleared that are result of MANSA, VACHA and KAMANA i.e. thought, word and deed respectively. Situated at an altitude of 1550-1950m above the sea level, it overlooks at the massive lake and equally impressive dam also serves as the major attraction of the area. One can also see many temples dotted across the place.
The Hindu Mythology and legends seemed to have showered TEHRI GARHWAL with several spiritual significances. It is this place where River Ganga arrives at DEVPRAYAG where River Bhagirathi and River ALAKNANDA merge.

Visitors also come to see the BUDDA KEDAR, the temple situated at the confluence of the BAL Ganga and Dharma Ganga rivers at a distance of 59kms. . From TEHRI, KUNJAPURI is the name given to a peak situated at an altitude of about 1,676mts. And 52kms

By Air: Jolly grant airport is the nearest airport to TEHRI situated at a distance of 91kms. Taxis are easily available from jolly grant airport to TEHRI.TEHRI is well connected by motor-able roads with jolly grant airport. Jolly grant airport is well connected to Delhi with daily flights.

By Rail: TEHRI GARHWAL is well connected by motor-able roads with RISHIKESH. The nearest railway station to TEHRI GARHWAL is situated in RISHIKESH. Taxis and buses are easily available from RISHIKESH to TEHRI.RISHIKESH is well connected by railway networks with major destinations of India. Trains to RISHIKESH Railway station are frequent.

By Road: Buses and Taxis to TEHRI are easily available from major destinations of UTTARAKHAND like Dehradun, MUSSOORIE, RISHIKESH, HARIDWAR, DEVPRAYAG, Srinagar, UTTARKASHI etc. TEHRI is well connected by motor-able roads with major destinations of UTTARAKHAND and northern states of India. Luxury and normal Buses to TEHRI are available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate.
