KALPESHWAR is the primary temple in the list of PANCH KEDAR pilgrimage and it is the merely temple of the sacred PANCH KEDARS that remains open throughout the year. Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of entangled hairs at KALPESHWAR and the trail to this holy shrine goes through dense forests and lavish verdant terrace fields. There is also an medieval KALPVRIKSHA tree here which is said to be the wish granting tree in Hindu tales.
KALPESHWAR is situated at an altitude of 2,134mts above sea level near URGAM Valley in district of UTTARAKHAND state and can be reached by an easy trek of 11 km starting from HELANG. The captivating URGAM valley can be reached after a trek of 9kms from HELANG. There are two routes from URGAM Valley one ending up at KALPESHWAR and other going to PANAR and RUDRANATH via DUMAK.

It is one of the PANCH KEDARS of Lord Shiva and the fourth one in order of visit where he is worshipped in the form of his Face. Located at the height of 2286mts above the sea level RUDRANATH can be reached by a 21kms step trek from the village of SAGGAR. The SAGGAR village is 10kms from KALPESHWAR.
JOSHIMATH is a small but very important pilgrimage site in the CHAMOLI district. It is one of the four Cardinal institutions formed by ADI SHANKRACHARYA and also houses the idol of Lord BADRINATH and is lord's home during the winters.
CHOPTA is widely known as ‘Switzerland’ of Uttaranchal and is placed 23km above from KALPESHWAR. Tourist attraction regarding CHOPTA has increased in contemporary years as the region is turning into a popular holiday spot for adventurers and explorers.
KALPESHWAR temple is one of the five PANCH KEDAR (shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva). As a result, KALPESHWAR is visited by thousands of devotees and pilgrims visit KALPESHWAR.

By Air: The nearest Airport to KALPESHWAR is the Jolly Grant airport located at a distance of 268 kms from KALPESHWAR. The Jolly grant airport is attached to Delhi with daily flights and Taxis are assuredly obtainable from the Airport to JOSHIMATH and URGAM village, from where the trek to KALPESHWAR commences.
By Rail: RISHIKESH railway station is the nearest railhead located 251 Kms from JOSHIMATH. It is connected to major states of the country by an excellent railway network. Trains to RISHIKESH are frequent and you can hire a taxi from RISHIKESH to JOSHIMATH or URGAM village.
By Road: KALPESHWAR can only be reached via a trek from the URGAM village which is well connected with the road network of the state. You can get a taxi to URGAM from major destinations of GARHWAL region like RISHIKESH, Dehradun, RUDRAPRAYAG and JOSHIMATH. Buses to RISHIKESH are available from Kashmiri Gate ISBT, Delhi and further a taxi can be hired from RISHIKESH to reach URGAM.
