Govind Wildlife Sanctuary Trek
The GOVIND Wildlife Sanctuary or GOVIND PASHU VIHAR National Park or Sanctuary is located in the UTTARKASHI district of UTTARAKHAND. Originated in 1955 the sanctuary covering an area of 958 sq. km and includes mountains like SWARG ROHINI, Black Peak and BANDARPUNCH. The altitude at the park ranges from the average altitude of 1400mts to an impressing peak of about 6323mts and constitutes of CHIRPINE, scrub tropical Euphorbia scrub and oak species.
Aside from the sanctuary and wildlife, the place is a famed tourist destination, typically because of the beauty of its snow-clad peaks and glaciers. GOVIND Wildlife Sanctuary enhances many trekkers and the most favoured of the treks being the lush green HAR-KI-DUN valley trek.
Tourists often visit the HAR-KI-DUN Forest Rest house, known for its location amid a valley of wild flowers. The forest rest houses of NAITWAR, TALUKA and OSLA are en-route to HARI-KI-DUN and are virtuous attractions in their own right.
The vast diversity of wildlife animal species that live here includes Himalayan black bears, TAHR, SEROW, MONAL, snow leopard, brown bears, TROGOPAN, CHIR, BHARAL, musk deer, KOKLAS, KALEEJ pheasants, CHUKOR, the bearded vulture, the black eagle, the gold eagle, Himalayan snow cock and many others.
The RUINSARA catchment area has been an important area for high altitude expedition to peaks like black peak, BANDERPUNCH, HAR KI DOON, RUINSARATAL, DEOKYARA, KEDARKANTHA and BHRATSAR are important places of attraction for the tourists. SWARGAROHINI, Black peak and BANDERPUNCH are the important peaks in the area.
Besides animals, there are furthermore 150 species of birds incorporating the golden eagle, ,the Himalayan SNOWCOCK, the steppe eagle and the black eagle, the bearded vulture and the Himalayan MONAL pheasant to name a few. It is a birdwatcher’s paradise.
Many popular treks routes including the HAR-KI-DOON initiate from the margins of the Wildlife Sanctuary. The rich natural beauty which envelops the national park allures adventure enthusiasts from all over the world.

By Rail: The nearest railhead is Dehradun, 207 km.
By Road: The Nearest city from the GOVIND Wildlife Sanctuary Park is DHARKADHI 17 km from the Park. It is easily accessible by road through RISHIKESH-UTTARKASHI or via MUSSOORIE-PUROLA -SAUR. Bus services are attainable from UTTARKASHI, BARKOT, Dehradun and NAITWAR to SAUR-SANKRI.
