GOVINDGHAT is a pristine village decorated by devotees and adventurers alike, in the CHAMOLI district of UTTARAKHAND state. It is situated on the way-station to BADRINATH at the meeting point of ALAKNANDA and LAKSHMAN GANGA streams. GOVINDGHAT is also the starting point of the trek to HEMKUND Sahib and the Valley of Flowers.
This holy place is perched at an altitude of 1800 metres above sea level. Since GOVINDGHAT is settled on the banks of ALAKNANDA River, a considerable part of it was obstructed by the 2013 UTTARAKHAND Floods, which was replaced later.

GOVINDGHAT manifests stimulating sights of the vanishing alpine hills engulfed by the mist. Either enchant in the sanctity of HEMKUND Sahib or listen to your uncontrollable push to trek to the Valley of Flowers. The GURUDWARA is settled on the right bank of the ALAKNANDA River and is an essential landmark of the area. It is also the finishing point of many travellers.
The weather of GOVINDGHAT remains approachable throughout the year but the winters are very merciless. Therefore, the place remains closed between the months of November to April. You can either rent a mule or avail the services of a local porter to reach GHANGARIA from here. GHANGARIA also serves as the base camp for HEMKUND Sahib and the Valley of Flowers.
GOVINDGHAT is the starting point of many treks in the GARHWAL region of UTTARAKHAND. The world remarkable Valley of Flowers trek initiates from GHANGARIA which can be reached from GOVINDGHAT. The holy pilgrimage of HEMKUND Sahib also starts from GOVINDGHAT.
The virtuous temple of BADRINATH is just 25kms from GOVINDGHAT while the pilgrimage on foot to the revered Sikh shrine HEMKUND Sahib at an elevation of 4,600 metres goes via GOVINDGHAT. Thousands of devotees participate in this annual journey.

By Rail: The nearest railhead to GOVINDGHAT is the RISHIKESH railway station which is located 273kms before GOVINDGHAT on NH58. It is effectively connected by railway networks with leading destinations of India as trains to RISHIKESH are persistent.
